This is one of Hong Kongs best kept secrets from the main tourist spots. It’s a narrow street which leads onto a a large market place which sells all sorts of souvenirs, toys, clothes and food. There is also a food market which sells a lot of exotic fruits and vegitables which you might not see outside of China.
One of the best things about this market is it’s off the tourist ruites and used a lot by locals. The selection of goods here would put the well known Ladies Market to shame and the toy shops here are cheaper and have a massive selection compared to any other single place I’ve found in Hong Kong. The selection of Gundam’s and other Japanese toys is probably more extensive than even the world famous Sino Center which is why this market place is called the Toy Street by many visitors.
If you are a toy collector or want to pick up souvenirs it’s a must visit place. You can spend hours here just wondering up browsing shops and findings things you might not be able to buy from most places in Hong Kong.
Getting to Tai Yuen Street is fairly easy as it’s on the Tram ruite or if you want to get the MTR go to Wan Chai station and exit through Exit A3 and cross Johnston Street.
The opening hours of the market and shops varies so I would reccomend visiting in the early afternoon although many shops will be open all day from 10am – 8pm.
